I am not directly promoting the WINOmega3complex brand. As for the purpose of my blog, I collect articles and info I find, and use it to promote health education to my readers and myself! I'm currently taking the CVS brand shown below.
The label said on front of bottle: 1200 mg's of Fish Oil. Well, Im confused, because the back of the bottle says, "1200mg Fish Oil", EPA, DHA, and TOTAL Omega-3 Fatty Acids: 360mg. What?! I hate how it won't just tell me..."Jessica, take 3 pills throughout the day, each pill will have "x" amount of each oil." So, does this mean Im getting 1,200mg of sometype of Fish Oil (im assuming it's anchovy/sardine's fish oil) and 360mg of EPA, DHA, and Total Omega-3 Fatty Acids in each pill? Yuck! I hate labels.
On a not so positive note! I recently discovered a great deal of controversy surrounding Fish Oil Supplements!
According to an excerpt from Wikipedia: “A March 2010 lawsuit filed by a California environmental group claims that eight popular brands of fish oil supplements contained excessive levels of PCBs…” [1][2]
It should be noted, however, that the majority of these products were either cod liver or shark liver oils. Because the liver is the major filtering and detoxifying organ, PCB content will be much higher in such products than in the more common fish oil produced from the processing of whole fish.”
The products named in the PCB lawsuit are:
--CVS/Pharmacy (yaaay...that's the brand I am taking)
--Omega Protein
--Pharmavite, which produces Nature Made supplements
--Rite Aid
-- GNC Liquid Norwegian Cod Liver Oil
-- Nature Made Cod Liver Oil
-- Nature Made Odorless Fish Oil
-- Now Foods Double Strength Cod Liver Oil
-- Now Foods Salmon Oil
-- Now Foods Shark Liver Oil
-- Solgar 100 percent pure Norwegian Shark Liver Oil Complex
-- Solgar Norwegian Cod Liver Oil
-- Twinlab Emulsified Norwegian Cod Liver Oil
-- Twinlab Norwegian Cod Liver Oil
